Best loved melodies

These are some of the greatest melodies ever composed. My fascination with them continues to grow as time goes by. They fascinate me. Haunt me. Make me experience ecstasy and agony, both at once. They are cathartic and sensual. Intriguing and eloquent. Genuine lovers of classical music would perhaps call them lightweight but that doesn't worry me. Much as I love the full-scale classical compositions, these evergreen melodies hold a special place in my heart:

1. Pachelbel: Canon In D
2. J. S. Bach: Air ‘On The G String’ (Hamlet Cigars)
3. Albinoni: Adagio In G Minor (Gallipoli)

5. Vaughan Williams: The Lark Ascending
6. Armstrong: Weather Storm
7. Beethoven: ‘Pastoral’ Symphony – Shepherds’ Hymn After The Storm
8. Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No.2 In C Minor – Ii Adagio Sostenuto (Brief Encounter)

15. Vivaldi: Winter (The Four Seasons) – Ii. Largo
16. Mozart: Clarinet Concerto In A – Ii. Adagio (Out Of Africa)
17. Elgar: Nimrod (Elizabeth)
18. Handel: Hallelujah Chorus (Messiah)
19. Allegri: Miserere Mei, Deus (Chariots Of Fire)
20. Barber: Adagio For Strings (Platoon)
21. Handel: Zadok The Priest (P&O Cruises Tv Advert)
22. Mozart: Lacrimosa (Requiem) (Amadeus)
23. Bach–Gounod: Ave Maria
24. Jenkins: Agnus Dei (The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace)
25. Elgar: Cello Concerto In E Minor – I. Adagio–Moderato

33. Mozart: Horn Concerto No.4 In E Flat – Iii. Rondo
34. Grieg: Piano Concerto In A Minor – I. Allegro Molto Moderato
35. Bizet: Temple Duet (The Pearl)
36. Holst: Jupiter (The Planets)

45. Rachmaninov. Vocalise (for violin and orchestra)
46. Gluck. Dance of the Blessed Spirits (from Orfeo ed Euridice)
47. Mozart. Piano Concerto No. 27 (slow movement)
48. Beethoven. 5th Piano Concerto (Emperor slow movement)
49. Mozart. 17th Piano Concerto (slow movement)
